The BBC's Nick Assinder offers a
review of Jacqui Smith's first week in office as Home Secretary, one in which the threat of terrorist attacks again raised its ugly head. He is very complementary: "Ms Smith's approach was entirely different [to predecessors], offering instead that calm, considered approach which is likely to maximise the cross-party support for any future changes she may propose". The BBC really need to get a different picture of the Home Sec though, the one they use does not suggest calm and considered, more shocked and confused.
